It’s not very often that you come across a place that gives character to the town in which you live. Lafayette and West Lafayette are full of chain restaurants but there are very few that Lafayette can call its own. Mary Lou Donuts is one of those places that any local will tell you is one of the best places in town. Since I’ve lived in Lafayette for four years and have yet to give it a try, I decided to pay Mary Lou’s a visit.
The shop itself is a quaint A-frame oozing with vintage charm where you can choose the drive-thru, carry out, or stay and enjoy your pastry at the counter. There’s a variety of items on the menu (I recommend the glaze twist) and all for a very low price. It’s always refreshing to see that mom and pop shops are still able to flourish and Mary Lou’s certainly is one of Lafayette’s hidden treasures.
