It’s a big day for breakfast as Taco Bell announces its new breakfast menu that will be available nationwide in March. While Taco Bell is experimenting with the new, McDonald’s is looking at a way to extend the tried and true. They are currently in the early stages of figuring out if they can continue serving breakfast until later in the day.
This is probably great news for those who like to sleep in on the weekend but still want their Egg McMuffin too. Even though this idea is still in the works, I think it would be a strong move on McDonald’s part. Serving breakfast later in the day would give them an advantage over the stiff competition in the food industry. They already have an “After Midnight” menu, which serves a mix of breakfast and lunch items from midnight until 4 a.m. so even if they only served select breakfast items after 10:30 a.m., it would still cater to more customers.
In reality though, this is all hypothetical. Every article about this topic says that the company is “thinking about” extending its hours, but gives no mention on how or when. While no one wants a Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel at 1:30 p.m. more than me, it seems like McDonald’s is just trying to keep up with the breakfast hype of its competitors. An article from Fox News says this may be due to the Law of Scarcity or “The McRib Effect”.
What are your thoughts? Do you think McDonald’s will really extend their breakfast menu? Personally, I’ll believe it when I see it.
